Assistant Professor of Macroeconomics, affiliated with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy


He obtained his doctorate in Economics from Goethe-University Frankfurt in 2010. Afterwards, he worked as a Postdoc at the Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability in Frankfurt and also visited the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. In 2012 he joined the University of Kiel and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy where he is Deputy Head of the research area “Macroeconomic Policy under Market Imperfections”.


His research interests are in the area of Monetary Macroeconomics and in particular Monetary and Fiscal Policy, Business Cycle Models and Macroeconomic Forecasting.

Maik Wolters has published in the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Economic Theory, the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, the Handbook of Economic Forecasting and others.
